As of July 4th 2018, the Internet as we know it might be dead for good. 

The European Parliament is passing a new Copyright Directive. 
Article 13 #CensorshipMachine will impose widespread censorship of all the content we share online. Art, fanfiction, parodies, remixes, mashups, memes, etc.. Anything that you do not hold the rights over will be taken down. 

Article 13 would force all online platforms to police and prevent the uploading of copyrighted content, or make people seek the correct licenses to post that content. Internet platforms hosting large amounts of user-uploaded content must monitor user behaviour and filter their contributions to identify and prevent copyright infringement. 

Such filters will be mandatory for platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and Instagram, but also much smaller websites.

This doesn’t just affect Europe. The content creators you love are going to be in hot water for sharing their art and writing with you online. Any and all content that doesn’t belong to us will be filtered. Even memes are at risk, as the person who took the original photo may want to file complaints against any platform that allows it to be used without permission. But it goes even further than that.

Last Tuesday (19th June 2018) a group of more than 70 people who have played important roles in building the internet and developing it (Tim Berners-Lee, Vincent Cerf, Jimmy Wales, Mitchell Baker…) into what it is today addressed an open letter to the members of the European Parliament:

“As creators ourselves, we share the concern that there should be a fair distribution of revenues from the online use of copyright works, that benefits creators, publishers, and platforms alike.

But Article 13 is not the right way to achieve this. By requiring Internet platforms to perform automatic filtering all of the content that their users upload, Article 13 takes an unprecedented step towards the transformation of the Internet from an open platform for sharing and innovation, into a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users. […] The damage that this may do to the free and open Internet as we know it is hard to predict, but in our opinions could be substantial.”

Summary: the serpent gang are transferred to riverdale high, and they meet the northside gang. Yet a sertain serpent with a certain name, meets the northside badass.

Waking up in the morning was never a problem, there was always something new going on in school, some new drama, a new death or a new face to meet. Today was no different, however, for some, today might be something to not looking forward to. Today the southside is coming here… to the northside.

I walked through the halls, arriving to school a bit later than usual, to skip the crowding which was bound to happen, as well as the most likely fights that occurred between the serpents and bulldogs. Looking round, everything looked normal, but I could feel the tension in the atmosphere. I walked into the lounge area, where I saw some familiar faces.

‘I’m just Josie, and this is Kevin, and here is our loved badass, Y/N’ I walked in, and straight away went to sit between Kevin and a tough looking serpent, dare I say attractive.

‘That’s me, the badass’ I look around and notice everyone looking at me. I jumped out my seat and went to give the new people a hug, except for Jughead, he’s been my best friend for a while. When I got to the serpent I was sitting next to, I hugged him for longer, just because I simply didn’t want to let go.

‘Sweet Pea’ He told me, and I laughed.

‘Sorry, what?

‘Sweet pea, that’s my name.’ He smirked at me. I looked at him before looking round to see if anyone is laughing.

‘For real? Sweet pea?’ I got a nod in reply. I smiled at him and sat back down. Minutes went past and everyone was talking in their small groups, and I was having a conversation with Kevin about what his dad has been up to. I suddenly felt a large, warm hand on my back. I turned around to see sweet pea nodding towards the door. I stood up, saying bye to everyone and followed sweet pea out.

‘What did you want’

‘I need to find the toilet but have no idea where it is’

I laughed at him ‘so you literally pulled me away to ask me where the toilet is?’

He smiled at my comment. ‘Yeah… well’

‘Okay tough serpent. Just go down the corridor, and the third door on the left is your stop.’ I was smiling at him whilst telling him the directions, due to finding this whole situation weird yet amusing.

‘Thanks, princess’

‘It’s Y/N actually, tough guy’

‘It’s sweet pea actually’

I laughed at him ‘what a name’ I said shaking my head. I stopped and looked at him, looked him in the eye. I didn’t see a tough guy in them, I saw a sweet, loving guy who needs someone to love him.

‘What a beautiful smile’ he said, and just turned around and walked off. ‘See you around, princess’ he looked back at me.

‘Bye sweet pea’ and I swear I saw him smile.
